DJ/Promoter/Graphic Designer, Nino Torre
A pioneer Mobile DJ since '76 and club DJ since'78. In '77 he began DJ'ing at
Phillips Dance Studio, the featured studio in "Saturday Night Fever" in Bensonhurst,
Brooklyn. There he learned Hustle dancing and partnered up with Corey, daughter
the studio's owners. The duo competed in various Dance contests in a few Bay
Ridge clubs, in Brooklyn placing in many finals. In '79, Nino held court at
Kingsborough Community College with The Disco Dance Club, instructing Hustle
to groups as large as 80 people, during extracurricular sessions. In '80 Nino
began organizing events & hosted the College's first big dance party to be held in
their seaside Cafeteria with 500 plus attendees. In late '80, Nino's mixed tapes
were featured on the original 92KTU Radio show with Carlos DeJesus. He then
started The Midnight Music Company, a DJ/Entertainment business in 1988.
Until 9/11, was employed for 4 years as resident DJ and promoter for lower
Manhattan’s hottest Latin ‘after work’ party called “Mambo, Baby?” on Thursdays,
at "The Greatest Bar On Earth” operated by “Windows On The World” Restaurant
atop Tower #1 of The World Trade Center. The 'Mambo Baby' nights featured
Latin music's greatest live shows on a weekly basis. Showcasing performers like
Tito Rojas, Tony Vega, Tito Nieves, Miles Peña, Wayne Gorbea's 'Salsa Picante'
and the legendary Johnny Pacheco and El Gran Combo, just to name a few.
His versatile music program for Salsa Thursdays included Salsa, Merengue,
Bachata, HipHop, R&B, Club Classics and House. In early 2000 he was appointed
to host and manage a new Friday night Old School Disco dance party, later to be
called "Glitter" at 'The Greatest Bar'. Of course his well rooted Disco music
knowledge played a big role in this new venture. He began contracting performers
& seasoned DJ’s that later allowing him to host incredible weekly shows, boasting
true disco artists like Tavares, The Trammps, Musique, Crown Heights Affair,
BT Express, GQ, Brass Construction, Lolleata Halloway, France Joli, Debbie
Jacobs, Carol Douglas & lots more, making the "Glitter" parties, truly 'Legendary'.
Since 9/11, he's had DJ gigs at NYC clubs like The World, Saci, Centro Fly,
Webster Hall, Avalon (Lime Light), Copacabana & many more. Some interesting
DJ contracts through his Midnight Music Co. included The South Street Seaport
Music Cruises, The Grammys, and even MTV staff parties. Some international
bookings in Santo Domingo, Cancun and Miami. Through Midnight Music
productions, he’s hosted events at E’toile, The Russian Tea Room, Vudu Lounge,
The El Flamingo and NYC landmark Tavern On The Green. In Jan. of 2002 Nino
hosted a five week contest "The Club Classics DJ Competition". The event started
in a small Bay Ridge club called NOI, in Brooklyn. The finals were held in Manhattan
at Busker Browns with 300+ people attending. His music industry contacts were key
in making the event credible for the competing DJ’s. Judges for the event included
representatives from Salsoul, West End, Atlantic & Tommy Boy Records. Radio
station representatives from WKTU (Joe Causi) and Kiss FM (Joe Clark), legendary
Studio 54 & Bond's Intl. promoter, Mike Stone were judges on hand when needed.
Impressively Nino Torre placed third in the competition Finals to 2nd place Renee
Hewitt, and winner Nelson Roman in 1st place.
September of 2004, his Classic Disco Mixes were featured on WKTU radio’s Sunday
Night Classics program hosted by Joe Causi and another feature on the the short
lived Mix 105 in November of ’04.
After moving his family to Richmond, Virginia in late Summer of 2005, his focus jumped
into a Fund-Raiser for Hurricane Katrina's Victims aimed at Richmond's Latino
community. The event was featured on the local NBC TV channel 12 and was well
attended. Nino Torre and his well rooted VA friend Tony Tan raised $1,600 that was
donated to The Red Cross. They later formed a DJ/Entertainment team now named,
NiteMix Productions. Nino has established himself as the official Art Director, Music
Coordinator, host and DJ for the the annual Hustle & Salsa Dance Cruise with co-host
& director Drew Axelrod. The cruises began in 2003 and since then Nino has also
been an invited DJ for National dance competitions: MADJAM hosted by Dave
Moldover, Disco America hosted by Donna Boyle & Joyce Szili and World Hustle
Dance Championships hosted by Diane Nardone. Most recently Nino also DJ'd at
the NYC Hustle Congress hosted by Lori Brizzi in '09 and then The NYC Intl. Salsa
Congress in '10. Nino has since move back to NYC in mid 2011 and has re-solidified
all his prior contacts.
From international night clubs in exotic locations, to the ballrooms of many Bride’s
fantasy weddings, Nino Torre is capable of mixing entire programs of House, Hip Hop,
Reggae, all Latin & Reggaeton, Disco, Oldies & top 40. With skills in design & graphics
along with many years of print industry experience in NYC, he keeps busy at his home
office in Brooklyn, NY. Nino Torre offers a multitude of services and experience to the
